Fishing changes with the seasons—and knowing what to expect helps you plan better charters, catch more fish, and have a lot more fun.

Spring (March–May): Rockfish & Bass Action
Perfect time for beginners. Bottom fishing for rockfish is productive and relaxing. You'll also see more halibut and calico bass coming into the shallows.
Recommended Gear: Medium-action spinning rod, 20 lb line
Summer (June–August): Yellowtail, Bonito & Offshore Fever
Now’s the time to go big. You’ll chase yellowtail, barracuda, and even dorado or tuna if the conditions are right.
Recommended Gear: Conventional reels, 30–40 lb test, live bait setups
Fall (September–November): Warm Water, Hot Bites
Water temps stay warm and offshore species linger. Great time for combo trips or twilight excursions.
Recommended Charter: All-day trips, sunset bass runs
Winter (December–February): Lobster Hoop Nets & Whale Watching
Fishing slows, but lobster hoop netting at night is a fun change of pace. Plus, grey whale migrations kick off in January.
Pro Tip: Join a lobster charter and bring a thermos of soup!
Knowing the seasonal bite helps you fish smarter—and gives you something to look forward to all year long.
